Microsoft is frequently asked to compare Microsoft® Windows NT® Server and Windows 2000 Server operating systems to Novell NetWare version 5.0. Microsoft holds that customers are no longer looking for single or limited-purpose server operating systems—rather, they require a server operating system that can play a multi-purpose role. This paper outlines why Windows 2000 Server meets customer requirements of a multi-purpose operating system today and in the future. This white paper compares features in Windows NT Server 4.0 and Windows 2000 Server with the features in Novell NetWare version 5.0.
